Audeze beskriver det bedst således: We’ve patented a new polymer film that uses carbon nanotubes suspended uniformly throughout the film. Until now, everyone has used laminations or vacuum deposition for electrostatics. This is probably the first real advance in electrostatic headphone technology in decades!
- It’s sonically superior to all the other electrostatic headphones available – not only the Stax 009, but the HiFI Man, Dan Clark Audio, and Sennheiser HE-1. The Stax has a big bass boost at about 60Hz, then falls off, so there’s little bass response below 60Hz. CRBN does not have the big bass boost, but instead has very accurate bass response flat to 20Hz.
- It’s very lightweight (only about 300 grams!), but beautifully made.
- It works with all Stax-type amplifiers – 580 volt bias and 5 pin DIN connector
- Does it have the low-bass “Slam” like our LCD series Planars? No, because all electrostatic headphones (by any manufacturer) are all limited to 580 volts, whereas our LCD series planar headphones can take lots of power. Therefore, if you’re looking for that “Slam” bass sound you’re used to with the LCD series, you’ll be a little disappointed. But if you want something that has more “air,” then the new CRBN might be perfect.
Stax SRM-700S (or T) or almost any Stax amp including the portable SRM-D10

Linear Tube Audio Z10e (also works with regular headphones)

(this is a convertor that works with regular power amps, but supplies the 580 volt bias needed for electrostatics).
Designed with Purpose
Audeze originally developed this new technology working with Prof. Mark S. Cohen Ph.D., UCLA School of Medicine and his team, for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Typical ferrous metals could not be used, so we had to develop a new material, and that led us to patent a special thin film with suspended carbon nanotubes. This solves the problems associated with lamination and deposition on the film.
Carbon Nanotube Technology
The CRBN driver includes a revolutionary ultra-thin diaphragm with carbon nanotubes suspended inside the material. Because the charge is distributed throughout the film, this results in a uniform driving force that reduces distortion and improves clarity, resolution and transparency.
Supreme Comfort
CRBN offers supreme comfort with its lightweight construction. At 300 grams, the minimalist design features materials such as magnesium and carbon fiber, which shaves off every gram while maintaining strength. The earpads are extra plush and slightly oversized, for a great seal and pillow-soft, cranium-cradling comfort.
Elegant Design
CRBN is the ultimate in luxurious design, from the smooth curves of its uniquely etched grill, to the depth of its finely polished acetate rings. Featuring hand-stitched premium leather, every detail has been fine-tuned, all the way down to the feel of the machined aluminum 5-pin connector.
580 Volt Compatibility
CRBN is compatible with “Stax Pro Bias” 580 Volt amplifiers such those from Woo Audio, Linear Tube Audio, Mjolnir Audio, Headamp, Stax (of course) and others. The cable is terminated with the industry standard 5-pin barrel connector for maximum compatibility.
