• TO-220 type Transistor
For the output stage, TO-220 type transistors with low Cob and excellent high-frequency characteristics have been implemented in a single push-pull configuration. By deliberately limiting the maximum output to 10W, A-0 VER2 achieves uncompromising quality in a high-end design.
• Four-stage Darlington Configuration
Although the maximum output is 10W, it employs the same four-stage Darlington configuration as flagship models, delivering precise and dynamic drive that lets you feel even the subtlest air-pressure changes at low listening levels.
• A fully discrete, non-NFB Circuit
Aside from adding a selector and volume control, the A-0 VER2 maintains an extremely simple design—just like flagship A-3 and other top models.
• A newly developed Bias Circuit
The S/N has been improved by the newly developed bias design.
• Variety of Output as Preamplifier
The “pre-out” now offers a selectable High mode, which outputs the loudspeaker signal directly with full strength, as well as a Low mode, where the output is attenuated.
• Enabling / Disabling Loudspeaker Output
When using the preamp function, an additional mode allows the loudspeaker output to remainactive, while another mode disables the loudspeaker output.
• RCA and XLR Connections for the Pre-out Terminals
The XLR terminals are configured as 1. GND, 2. Hot, 3. Floating GND.
SOULNOTE's design philosophy
Through his long career as a designer of audio equipment both in analogue and digital areas, Kato had been struggling to find out the reason why the improvement in static performance and the sound quality in playback did not always correspond.
Kato made a hypothesis about a counter-concept which he called dynamic performance.
The adoption of the NOS (non-oversampling) mode for PCM playback in digital-to-analogue conversion as well as a non-NFB (without negative feedback) circuit in amplifiers come from this hypothesis. Indeed, these worsen the measurement result in static performance, but a remarkable improvement can be recognised in dynamic one.
SOULNOTE believes dynamic performance while keeping accuracy of the original waveform on the time axis as the most important for music playback, which is, however, still unmeasurable by any of the conventional methods.
At SOULNOTE, only listening dominates the determination and improvement of circuit, selection of parts and mechanical construction. This approach is a kind of antithesis against the supremacy of static performance.
