• Single Push-Pull Output Stage
The single push-pull output stage features with the large high-power TO3P, low-Cob transistors used in a four stage Darlington configuration. This eliminates sound smearing while delivering overwhelming drive capability.
• A fully discrete, completely non-NFB
The design is kept extremely simple, with only
a selector and volume control installed to the power
amplifier. As with the flagship A-3, this configuration is essential to preserve the freshness of the music signal.
• A newly developed Bias Circuit
An improvement in S/N has been achieved by the newly developed bias circuit.
• Ultra-high-grade Resistors
In the circuit designed to eliminate CR resonance, SOULNOTE has employed ultra-high-grade resistors whose impedance remains constant even at high frequencies. As a result, both stability and high-quality sound was achieved without limiting the frequency range or sacrificing freshness.
• A newly developed non-impregnated Toroidal Power Transformer
By deliberately lowering the secondary output voltage (the amplifier’s maximum output), its current supply capability has been enhanced. This enables the amplifier to deliver an exhilarating, authoritative drive even with today’s low-impedance high-end loudspeakers.
• 2 XLR and 2 RCA Inputs
• The Relay-controlled Input Selector and Relay-switched Resistor-Type Volume Control
SOULNOTE's design philosophy
Through his long career as a designer of audio equipment both in analogue and digital areas, Kato had been struggling to find out the reason why the improvement in static performance and the sound quality in playback did not always correspond.
Kato made a hypothesis about a counter-concept which he called dynamic performance.
The adoption of the NOS (non-oversampling) mode for PCM playback in digital-to-analogue conversion as well as a non-NFB (without negative feedback) circuit in amplifiers come from this hypothesis. Indeed, these worsen the measurement result in static performance, but a remarkable improvement can be recognised in dynamic one.
SOULNOTE believes dynamic performance while keeping accuracy of the original waveform on the time axis as the most important for music playback, which is, however, still unmeasurable by any of the conventional methods.
At SOULNOTE, only listening dominates the determination and improvement of circuit, selection of parts and mechanical construction. This approach is a kind of antithesis against the supremacy of static performance.
